Seven Oaks Bike Safety Park
The Seven Oaks Bike Safety Park was created through the leadership of BikeAAA and Anne Arundel Bicycle Advisory Commission member Glenn Gunter. Mr. Gunter approached the homeowner’s association of his Odenton, MD, community with the idea of a traffic garden for local families. He explained the idea and the benefits of a traffic garden, and he identified a 63’-by-94’, closed-off parking lot adjacent to a green space with an existing tot lot. The homeowner’s association funded the design, and the parking lot was quickly transformed into a colorful traffic garden, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the County Executive and other dignitaries.
To increase the visibility and usage of the Seven Oaks Bike Safety Park, BikeAAA asked Kathleen Hayes Design to develop an interpretive sign, just had she had done for the Lindale Bike Safety Park. The sign was installed adjacent to the sidewalk approaching the bike course, with an eye to leaving space for adding a bike repair station in the future. The facility was immediately popular with the families in the surrounding neighborhood. Mr. Gunter reported that on the first Christmas morning after the installation of the bike park, many local children gathered at the site to test out the bicycles, scooters, and other rolling toys that they’d received from Santa Claus.
iZone Imaging was the obvious choice to produce the signs. Their Custom High Pressure Laminate material provides high quality color and graphic clarity with excellent durability. Their knowledge and responsiveness make them a joy to work with.
