Case Study | Women in Sports - A Title IX Journey

Nestled along the Border to Border Trail in Dexter-Huron Metropark, the Women in Sports: A Title IX Journey plaza stands as a powerful tribute to the impact of Title IX legislation on women’s sports in southeast Michigan. This inspiring project, a joint effort between the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission (WCPARC) and Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI), celebrates the progress and opportunities Title IX has created for female athletes.

The Title IX Plaza is the result of a true team effort. HWPI served as both a project partner and funder, working closely with WCPARC to bring the vision to life. Smithgroup, Good Design Group, and Detroit Metal Elements played key roles in the plaza's thoughtful design, while Phoenix Contractors expertly handled construction and the installation of the educational panels. A special thank you to iZone Imaging for providing the high-pressure laminate signs, chosen for their exceptional durability and weather resistance, ensuring the story of Title IX’s transformative impact will stand the test of time.

This meaningful space serves as both a celebration of progress and a reminder of the work that remains in achieving equality in sports. Next time you're on the Border to Border Trail, take a moment to visit the Title IX Plaza and reflect on the incredible journey of women in sports.
