Fish Island Preserve

Fish Island Preserve,  located in the historic city of St. Augustine, Florida, is a natural gem that offers a serene escape into the wonders of the local ecosystems. Encompassing 59-acres of coastal landscape, this preserve boasts a diverse array of habitats, including marshes, tidal creeks, and upland hammocks. As visitors traverse the well-maintained trails, they are treated to breathtaking views of the Matanzas River and its estuarine environment, teeming with indigenous flora and fauna.

The preserve’s tranquil setting makes it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and birdwatchers seeking a peaceful retreat. The varied ecosystems support an abundance of wildlife, providing a haven for numerous bird species, such as herons, egrets, and ospreys, as well as opportunities to spot various reptiles and mammals native to the region.

Beyond its natural allure, Fish Island Preserve also holds historical significance. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a result of its prehistoric and historic significance.

In early 2023, The City of St Augustine sought out the aid of Hybrid Design to develop interpretive signs to share the area’s rich history and ecological importance. Teaming up

with iZone, Hybrid Design developed various signs that were installed throughout the walking paths. iZone’s CHPL was used because of its specification as a durable and long-lasting sign solution, impervious to moisture and thermally stable. Today, visitors can enjoy and learn about the region’s rich history and biodiversity while taking in its captivating landscapes.

J.B Miller, St Augustine’s Land Management Coordinator, extended a “sincere thank you for the quality of your [iZone’s] products.”
