Toronto Zoo

The Toronto Zoo, located in Toronto, Canada, is a sprawling wildlife sanctuary that captivates visitors with its diverse array of animal species and commitment to conservation. Covering an impressive 710 acres, the zoo provides a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages to connect with nature and learn about the world’s wildlife. With over 5,000 animals representing more than 450 species, the Toronto Zoo offers a remarkable glimpse into the beauty and wonder of the animal kingdom.

The zoo’s exhibits are thoughtfully designed to recreate the natural habitats of the animals, allowing visitors to witness them in environments that closely resemble their native homes. Whether it’s the vast African savannah or the lush tropical rainforests of South America, every exhibit transports guests to a different corner of the globe, fostering a sense of adventure and exploration.

In 2021, the zoo embarked on a project to create a new outdoor Orangutan exhibit, aiming to provide visitors with an opportunity to observe these fascinating creatures in their natural habitat.

The zoo collaborated with Holman exhibits and Reich and Petch to design and build the outdoor pavilion from the ground up. Interpretive signage and displays were also designed, fabricated, and installed to inform visitors about the Orangutans’ natural habitat, behavior, and diet. Given the exhibit’s location in a public space exposed to the elements, durability was of utmost importance. Holman chose iZone’s High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) panels as they offer a robust and long-lasting signage solution. These panels are impervious to moisture and thermally stable, ensuring they withstand various weather conditions while maintaining their pristine appearance for years to come. Despite covid delays, the new Orangutan exhibit officially opened in June of 2023 and has already been thoroughly enjoyed by all.
