Case Study |
For over two decades, Lions Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has held the distinction of being recognized as an Important Bird Area, a testament to its thriving birdlife and diverse habitats. In 2025, the Cheyenne–High Plains Audubon Society (CHPAS) sought to share that story with the community by installing a series of interpretive signs that help visitors understand why the park is such a special place.
The new interpretive signs were designed to engage park visitors, highlight key bird species, and foster a deeper appreciation for local wildlife and conservation. Strategically placed along popular walking routes within the park, the signs guide visitors through areas where birds are most often seen, providing insight into the park’s ecology and the importance of habitat preservation.
This meaningful project was made possible through collaboration between CHPAS, the City of Cheyenne’s Parks and Recreation Department, and Chris Hoffmeister of Western Sky Design. The Parks and Recreation Department played a critical role in determining optimal sign locations and handled the final installation, ensuring the signs were visible and accessible to all visitors. Designer Chris Hoffmeister brought the interpretive content to life with vibrant, eye-catching imagery and thoughtful layouts that capture the beauty and spirit of Lions Park.
For fabrication, the project team turned to iZone Imaging, whose durable, high-quality CHPL graphic panels are renowned for their longevity and resilience. iZone’s materials were the perfect fit for an outdoor setting like Lions Park—offering fade, scratch, and graffiti resistance, along with moisture protection, thermal stability, and a 10-year warranty. The result is a stunning set of signs built to withstand Wyoming’s demanding climate while maintaining their visual impact for years to come.
Funding for this project came through the generous contributions of Cheyenne–High Plains Audubon Society members, whose dedication made this vision a reality.
The Cheyenne–High Plains Audubon Society extends heartfelt thanks to iZone Imaging, Western Sky Design, and the City of Cheyenne Parks and Recreation Department for their partnership in creating lasting educational resources that celebrate the wonder of Lions Park and the wildlife it sustains.
