Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center

Located in West Yellowstone, Montana, the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center (GWDC) is a nationally recognized educational facility dedicated to fostering understanding and coexistence between humans and wildlife in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Home to rescued grizzly bears, wolves, otters, and birds of prey, the center provides visitors with an immersive learning experience that highlights conservation, ecology, and responsible stewardship of wild spaces.

Welcoming an average of 2,000 visitors per day, the GWDC serves as a critical gateway for education at the edge of Yellowstone National Park. Its exhibits are designed not only to inform but to engage audiences of all ages, translating complex ecological relationships into accessible and memorable experiences. Through thoughtful interpretation, the center teaches how these animals fit into a shared ecosystem and how human actions directly impact their survival.

The most recent interpretive upgrades at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center were designed, built, and installed by Split Rock Studios, a firm known for creating compelling, story-driven environments. Split Rock’s work at GWDC emphasizes clarity, durability, and visual impact, ensuring that educational messaging remains effective in a high-traffic, outdoor-focused setting.

A key component of the project’s success was the selection of materials capable of withstanding the demanding environmental conditions of Montana. iZone Imaging was chosen to fabricate the custom High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) panels used throughout the facility. The HPL was selected specifically for its exceptional durability and resistance to temperature fluctuations, an essential requirement for exhibits exposed to extreme seasonal changes and heavy daily use. The result is interpretive signage that maintains its integrity, legibility, and appearance year-round, even under constant exposure to sun, snow, and fluctuating temperatures.

Together, the collaboration between Split Rock Studios and iZone Imaging supports the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center’s mission by delivering exhibits that are as resilient as they are informative. The project demonstrates how thoughtful design, quality materials, and clear educational goals can come together to create a lasting impact—helping thousands of visitors each day better understand the wildlife of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and their role in protecting it.
